We co-created 3 large street puppets inspired
by the oldest stories of our area, those that come from the Tongva
people. The puppets were part of a procession and display at the Lummis
Day Festival on June 4th.
Children
and adults were welcome to come hear Tongva stories, and joined in the exciting
process of community art making!
Our storyteller (May 13) was Don Newton, a community activist, poet,
painter and long time resident of Northeast Los Angeles. His book "The
Beginning of the World" is a collection of stories and legends
of the Tongva.
