Artists Statement
My abstract work began appearing about five years ago. It is both a
counterpoint to, and a continuation of a life lived and layers of the
past as evidenced through memory. By eliminating narrative and figurative
elements I have been able to narrow my focus to subtleties of color,
brush stroke and surface, which are of primary importance to me.
While I still utilize layered surfaces and nontraditional materials,
the work seems to be opening up and moving into more spiritual and meditative
areas.
Recently I have explored Encaustic, painting with heated bees
wax and pigment. This ancient medium encourages layering and creates
a more sensual surface-enabling me to deepen my artistic exploration.
